One day of hiking in the mountains is wonderful. But what if you can turn it into a multi-day adventure, without having to descend to the starting point? Then a hut tour is certainly the ultimate mountain experience.
During a hut tour
you walk a route through the mountains that is normally too long to do in one day. Such as a circular route or reaching a high-altitude peak. You can divide the tour by sleeping one or more nights in the mountain hut. The next day you can hit the path again full of new energy.
Each mountain hut is beautifully situated
and you will find them in all sizes and shapes. For example, some huts are guarded half or all year round and offer the service of meals, route advice, sanitary facilities, heat and electricity. Other cabins arenât guarded. These huts only function as protection and for the overnight stay of hikers, climbers or skiers with their own equipment.
Reach the most special places
Because you enter deeper into the mountains, you will pass by the most beautiful natural phenomena and panoramic viewpoints. Together with your hiking company you are completely isolated from the outside world.
Discover the atmosphere in the mountain hut
After a day full of effort, itâs time to take off your hiking boots. Have a drink on the terrace of the mountain hut while enjoying the sunset. In the evening the cooks of the hut serve a three-course menĂș at one of the long tables, shared with other excursionists.
And sleep a night under the stars
When the last daylight fades, thousands of brilliant stars appear. The pure mountain air and the distance from any light pollution make these starry skies incredibly bright.
During a hut tour you go back to basic. The entire experience of physical activity, nature and peace make this the activity that you want to tick off your bucket list!
Some insider mountain hut tips:
- In the huts it is appreciated if you save water and electricity and you have to take your own waste with you.
- Bring earplugs to get a good night’s sleep, because normally you sleep in shared dorms (you could have the bad luck to sleep next to a snorer…)
- Hikers normally go to bed early and get up (very) early
- The hut crew can always advise you on route and weather conditions
- Are you a member of a mountaineering federation, such as the UIAA? Then you get a discount on your stay in the mountain hut.
- Don’t forget your (charged) camera / mobile, because you definitely want to be able to capture this experience!
