Discover the must-try local products of the Aragonese Pyrenees

The Aragonese Pyrenees are renowned for their rich gastronomic traditions and high-quality local products. From flavourful regional cheeses and premium extra virgin olive oil to truffle specialities, artisanal honey, pure chocolate and local craft beers — this mountain region is a paradise for food lovers. In our Chill-Outdoor Restaurant, you can taste many of these Pyrenean specialities firsthand, as we cook with ingredients sourced from local producers. You can also find a selection of these artisan products in our on-site shop — perfect to take home as a culinary souvenir or to give as a thoughtful gift.

Taste artisanal cheeses in the Ésera Valley

If you want to taste artisan cheeses, the Ésera Valley is the perfect destination! Several local cheesemakers craft their cheeses using traditional recipes. One of these family businesses is Senz, where all cheeses are handmade using milk from cows and sheep that graze freely in the valley’s meadows and mountains.

Another delicious option is El BenasquĂ©s, a family-owned cheesery producing high-quality cheeses using artisanal methods. You can taste their cheeses in their shop in SahĂșn (note: they do not speak English!), making it a charming excursion combined with a visit to the village. Be sure to call ahead to check opening hours, as they can change frequently.

Several of our travel packages include a cheese tasting experience. For example, you can join a tasting in our summer multi-adventure package or during our spring or autumn hiking packages.

Olive oil

The Spanish are true masters when it comes to producing high-quality olive oil; many families even own their own olive groves. It’s no wonder the region is famous for its rich olive oil culture.

At our restaurant, we cook exclusively with Secastilla extra virgin olive oil. This premium olive oil is also available in our shop, both in one-liter bottles and elegant half-liter bottles. In winter, when the olives are ripe, locals bring their harvest to the Secastilla olive mill, where their own olive oil is freshly pressed. You can even visit the olive press — we’re happy to share more details when you book your holiday with us.

Curious about how to tell one olive oil from another? Or wondering about the difference between virgin and extra virgin olive oil? We’re happy to give you tips on where to taste the finest olive oils in the Spanish Pyrenees.

Honey from Ribagorza

Ribagorza honey is traditionally produced in Graus, a charming village in the Ésera Valley. If you’re craving something sweet, you don’t have to look far. This honey is renowned for its high quality and rich aroma, and it is completely natural and organic.

During a walk from our mini-camping site, you can even see the beehives in the area. You can also purchase this delicious local honey in our shop in PerarrĂșa, making it easy to bring a taste of the Ésera Valley home with you.

For the chocolate lovers

we can't forget the chocolate of BrescĂł on the list. Since 1875, the BrescĂł family has been making artisanal chocolate. The chocolatier profession has been passed on to all generations since.

In the chocolate factory of Benabarre you will find chocolate in all tastes and sizes. From bonbon's to nougat, hot chocolate and bars with all kinds of nuts.

Wanna have a taste? Chocolate factory BrescĂł is open every day of the week, except Wednesdays. A visit can be combined with the castle of Benabarre. Or come and taste the brownie from our restaurant made with chocolate from BrescĂł!

The black truffle

The black truffle, often called “black gold,” is one of the most exclusive delicacies of the region. The Tuber melanosporum is famous for its intense aroma and unique flavor, and has become an internationally sought-after gourmet product.

In Graus, the first truffle market in AragĂłn was established in 1947, making it one of the very first truffle markets in all of Spain. During the truffle season, from mid-November to mid-March, you can visit the renowned Trufate Market to taste, buy, and learn more about the tradition of truffle hunting in the Spanish Pyrenees.

For a more immersive experience, you can even go truffle hunting with a local guide. We’re happy to provide all the details to make your truffle adventure unforgettable.

Local drinks

In addition to the fine wines from the Somontano region, there are also other craft drinks. How about the local beers? Like Rondadora's white beer or Tensina's I.P.A.

Or prefer to try a liqueur? A glass of 'Pacharan' of sleigh berries or a spicy brandy, also called 'Orujo de hierbas', is locally drunk after taking dinner together.

And we would almost forget... But the water we serve in our Chill-Outdoor Restaurant is one of the most famous spring water of the Pyrenees.
